Description

Under phase I of this project financed by the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau/KfW, Germany, DORSCH CONSULT was retained to prepare a feasibility study on the improvement of the airside facilities at Baku Bina International Airport, 15 km north-west of the capital of Azerbaijan Republic.

The study comprised the following major elements:

  • analysis/forecast of air traffic
  • analysis of airport operating company AZAL in respect of maintenance and upkeep
  • analysis of airside infrastructure
  • determination of requirements for structural measures
  • elaboration of a list of priority measures
  • selection of measures for phase II

Under phase II the company was then retained, under a separate contract award, to carry out the detailed design and construction supervision of the selected measures as well as provide advisory services in respect of the operation and maintenance of equipment and installations.

The physical measures concerned embrace:

  • construction of asphalt taxiway, 23 m wide with 10.5 m of shoulder on each side, including blister lights repair of apron and construction of drainage gutters
  • repair and widening of existing taxiway sections adjoining apron of international terminal
  • installation of blister lights and associated cabling for taxiway sections
  • installation of markers and signals for taxiway sections
  • improvements and additions to drainage structures in aircraft operations area, primarily open ditches and repair of central pumping station
